Wednesday, 7 Mar, 2018 Windows Server Active Directory While adding a new Domain Controller (DC) to your pre-existing forest, a nice tip to remember is to: (At the beginning) Always configure your wanna-be (New) DC's TCP/IP v4 PRIMARY DNS IP Address to point it to the FSMO DC. Then, once the New server becomes a new DC ("gets promoted"): Make sure that replication is successful and it consistently works (ie. when manually solicited). To manually solicit replication between two DCs, you may use the repadmin command. Example repadmin command: repadmin /syncall fsmo-dc01 dc=pwrusr,dc=com /d /e /a The above command will sync (replicate) your New DC with "fsmo-dc01". Once replication works consistently: Update your New DC's TCP/IP v4 PRIMARY DNS IP Address to point it to itself first (ie. as Primary DNS Server) then to the FSMO-DC after (as a Secondary DNS Server). 3.1/5 - (74 votes) Andrea MatesiSenior Professional Network and Computer Systems Engineer during work hours and father when home.
